India registered 2.52 births of Crore in 2023, about 2.32 Lakh less than in 2022, in major statistics based on civil registration report (CRS) for 2023.
The report, drawn up by the CEO of India (RGI) and published on Monday (October 13, 2025), said that in 2023 86.6 lakh deaths were registered, which is a marginal increase of 86.5 lakh deaths in 2022.
The report shows that in 2022 and 2023 there was no major increase in death, despite the COVID-19 instrument panel maintained by the Ministry of Health, which shows that the total number of death caused by pandemies cost 5.33,665, which recorded on May 5, 2025. In 2020, the death of 81.2 was Lakh and 102.2 Lakh in 2021.
The report also stated that Jharkhand recorded the lowest sex ratio at 899, followed by Bihar at 900, Telangana in 906, Maharashtra to 909, Gujarat 910, Haryana at 911 and Mizoram to 911.
The highest gender ratio was reported to Arnacal Pradesh to 1,085, followed by Nagaland at 1,007, Goa on 973, Ladakh and Tripura in 972 and Kerala in 967.
The share of institutional birth in total registered births is 74.7 %in 2023. However, the report did not include information from Sikki. The total registration of birth for 2023 was 98.4%.
The report stated that 11 countries/trade union areas (UTS) reached more than 90% of birth registration within the prescribed time limit of 21 days. These states are Gujarat, Puduchherry, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Havel and Daman & Diu, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryan, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Pandjab.
Five states-Odisha, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh-Elvedlo 80-90% of registration, while in 14 states-Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, West Bengaya, West Bengaya Bengal, Meghalay, West Bengaya, West Bengal, Meghalaya, West Bengaya, West Benghal, Meghalaya, Meghalaya, Meghalaya, Meghalaya, Meghalaya, Meghala.
