After a flood of complaints that the Hebbal stretch – a key link between the city and the airport – is persistently dirty, the Bengaluru North Corporation commissioner has set a deadline of December 14 to clean the entire corridor.
This road is the main link between Bengaluru and the airport and many people have pointed out that visitors entering the city see piles of garbage as their “first impression”.
The move also comes in the wake of a recent inspection by Revenue Minister and Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda, who highlighted the lack of maintenance on the main road.
The special drive started on Monday and will continue for a week. It covers Allalasandra, Hebbal, Byatarayanapura, Nagawara and nearby areas. All major agencies including BMRCL, NHAI, Bescom, BWSSB have been asked to join the effort along with local RWAs and shops and commercial establishments along the road.
Pommala Corporation Commissioner Sunil Kumar has written to each of these agencies to send representatives so that they can jointly take up the responsibility of cleaning and maintaining the corridor.
The NHAI was specifically asked to immediately fix two problems – broken barricades along the road and damaged drainage slabs that were protruding and blocking parts of the road.
