The MP police challenged the actor duo’s plea in the Kerala High Court

The Madhya Pradesh Police has questioned the maintainability of the bail plea filed by actor Farmaan and his wife in the Kerala High Court.

The MP police registered an FIR against them after an inquiry by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes found that she was a minor at the time of her marriage.

The MP police argued that the bail application before the Kerala HC was not maintainable as the FIR against them was registered in Madhya Pradesh. They can only ask for an advance deposit for transit. There is no mention in the bail plea as to why they chose not to go to MP, he said.

The couple claimed that copies of the FIR against them were not submitted to the High Court. The court noted that it will hear the case only after the FIR is filed. The court had previously postponed their detention.

The two actors got married in March in Kerala with the help of the local police as her family was against their marriage. Subsequently, her father filed a complaint with the MP police accusing Farmaan of kidnapping his “minor” daughter.

She then filed an application in the Madhya Pradesh High Court alleging that the birth certificate her father produced to criminalize her interfaith marriage was forged.
