Labor Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who have been entrusted with the Jubilee Hills bypoll, celebrate the party’s victory along with Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari in Hyderabad on Friday.
A carefully planned and aggressively executed campaign by three senior ministers, G. Vivka Venkatswamy, Ponnam Prabhakar and Tummala Nageshwar Rao, played a decisive role in ensuring Congress’ emphatic victory in the Jubilee Hills Assembly elections.
Charged by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy with the responsibility of turning the traditionally unfavorable constituency in favor of the Congress, ministers began work months before the bypass notification was issued or the candidate announced.
Despite Jubilee Hills being a seat that the Congress has not won since the creation of Telangana, the ministers launched an early and deep-reaching programme. They coordinated with local leaders, held ward meetings and penetrated pockets where the party had historically struggled.
Development works worth hundreds of millions of crowns were approved for the constituency, which significantly strengthened the connection between the government and the residents.
Labor and Employment Minister Vivek Venkatswamy took the lead by addressing numerous colony meetings and targeted interactions with various sections of society. At a time when BRS seemed to have a head start with the early announcement of its candidate, Mr. Vivek worked to neutralize its early advantage.
“When we first entered the constituency, the BRS had a massive lead in sympathy and other related factors. But in just three months of dedicated work, we managed to erase that entire gap,” he told The Hindu. “CM Revanth Reddy entrusted us with immense trust and we achieved this victory. CM’s public meetings neutralized all the negative campaign of BRS.”
Describing the result as a “clear rejection of the BRS leadership and its policies”, Mr Vivek pointed out that the party had consistently lost elections from the parliamentary polls to the Lok Sabha, Cantonment and now Jubilee Hills polls. He said the BRS over-depends on social media narratives while ignoring ground realities. “This win is not accidental. We listened to people’s concerns and addressed them.”
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar undertook extensive tours across the constituency meeting influential individuals and various communities to consolidate support for the Congress. Here he connected the party’s social agenda with the masses and mobilized the cadre.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao has specifically targeted mobilizing TDP-leaning voters, a segment considered critical in the constituency. His efforts were credited with drawing former TDP supporters into the Congress movement, further boosting the party’s prospects.
