The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key accused in connection with the November 10 car bomb blast near the Red Fort that left 14 dead and around 30 injured.
The accused Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish was arrested from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. He is a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag. Before the car bomb exploded, he allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terrorist attacks by modifying drones and attempting to manufacture missiles.
Mr Wani was a co-conspirator and worked closely with alleged terrorist Umar Un Nabi in planning the car bombing, the agency said on Monday.
Earlier, the NIA had arrested Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car involved in the blast was registered. He is a resident of Samboora in J&K’s Pampore and allegedly conspired with Nabi, who was a doctor by profession. On Monday, the agency produced the accused before a Delhi court, which sent him to 10-day NIA custody.
“Amir came to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of a car which was eventually used as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) to trigger the blast. NIA forensically identified the deceased driver of the vehicle IED as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and an assistant professor in the Department of General Medicine, NIAbad Al Falahary University, Farida Al Falahary University.
Another vehicle belonging to Nabi was seized. The NIA has so far interviewed 73 witnesses, including those who were injured in the blast, for clues. It works in close coordination with the police in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, besides various other agencies.
The Counter Intelligence Service Kashmir (CIK) of Jammu and Kashmir has questioned a local doctor who rented accommodation to a doctor from Haryana. The state police has also launched a drive to check on former car dealers and fertilizer/chemical dealers. It had earlier seized about 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, in raids in Haryana’s Faridabad.
