The government is putting 25 coal blocks up for sale in the 16th round of commercial auctions

The Coal Ministry on Thursday formally launched the sixteenth round of the commercial mine auction, in which 25 blocks comprising 21 fully explored and four partially explored mines were auctioned.

Mines are spread across nine coal states including Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal.

The latest round forms part of the government’s larger framework for commercial coal mining, in which 147 mines have been auctioned so far, which are expected to cumulatively generate revenues of over ₹47,500 crore and include an anticipated capital investment of over ₹55,000 crore across nine coal states.
