The income tax department learned to perform search operations in the Karnataka Minister KJ George at the Golf Links Ambassy Golf, Dominataka, Bengalur.
Mr. George was gone in Japan on an official visit and was not present during search operations, sources said. When Hindu tried to achieve him, he was not available for comment.
Sleuths also searched offices of approximately seven suppliers associated with buying intelligent meters of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) in Bengalur and Davanagere, sources said. The income tax department has not issued any statement and it is not clear whether Mr. George’s search is also associated with intelligent meters.
The search has been turned on in the last two days and was reportedly closed on Wednesday.
BJP accusation
The opposition Party Bharatiya Janata (BJP) claimed to have a fraud of 7,500 GBP-Crore when entering intelligent meters, pointing to several sinks while entering public procurement contracts, leading to escalation of costs. However, the energy department and Mr. George denied all the accusations.
Three BJP MLA – CN Ashwath Narayan, Slovakia Vishwanath and Dheeraj Muniraj – filed a complaint against the police of Lokayukta, who was looking for a probe in April 2025. The court searched for a report on the complaint status on July 23.
