An alleged video of Dr. Umar Un Nabi, the driver of the car in the Delhi bomb blast that killed 12 people, with the video showing the doctor talking about the “misunderstood” idea of suicide bombings.
“One of the most misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labeled as a suicide bombing. It’s a martyrdom operation…,” Nabi is heard saying in the chilling video, which shows him alone in a room.
“There are many arguments and contradictions that have been raised against it. Martyrdom is when a person assumes that they will surely die at a specific place and time,” he adds.
The video, believed to have been taken before the November 10 attack, comes a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday described Nabi as a “suicide bomber”.
It was the first time the NIA, which is investigating the case, used the term for the car bombing near the Red Fort.
A nasty terrorist plot
It has been confirmed that Nabi was indeed behind the wheel of the Hyundai i20 that exploded near a historic site, killing 12: DNA evidence matched his remains to his mother.
The 10th attack in the state capital came hours after police busted a white-collar terror cell in Faridabad, where nearly 3,000 kg of explosives and arms and ammunition were recovered.
Since then, investigations have uncovered a horrifying plot to carry out serial blasts across India, and more recently, it was further revealed that a terror module planned a Hamas-style attack using armed drones and rockets that left nearly 1,200 dead in Israel on October 3, 2023, plunging the Middle East into more than two years of war.
Forensic analysis of the blast site also confirmed the use of a mixture of ammonium nitrate and triacetone triperoxide (TATP) in a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).
Investigators also found international connection to the terrorist plot: a Turkey-based handler codenamed Ukasa is believed to have coordinated with Nabi and the terror module via encrypted messaging apps since at least 2022.
Two arrests — Amir Rashid Ali, who is accused of facilitating the purchase of the i20, and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who provided technical support to Nabi — have so far been made in direct connection with the car bombing, apart from several arrests related to the Faridabad terror module.
Al-Falah University, where Nabi worked as an assistant professor before disappearing days before the blast, is also under surveillance by authorities.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has since registered a case under the PMLA and launched raids at more than 25 locations to uncover the money trail and the full extent of the nefarious terror plot, which included a major planned attack codenamed ‘Operation D-6’ scheduled for December 6, coinciding with the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.
