The Collector is ensuring the completion of ongoing development work in Chittoor

District Collector Sumit Kumar on Saturday said that the administration is committed to complete all ongoing development and welfare works as per the state government’s priorities even though Chittoor district is facing rain deficit and drought-like conditions.

Talking to the media after the general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad here, the Collector said that funds have already been spent on several irrigation projects which were in various stages of implementation. “We will ensure their completion while the remaining funds will be monitored and the work will be carried out as per the norms,” ​​he said.

Referring to some of the ongoing works, he said the district would seek necessary approvals from the Panchayat Raj Commissioner and the Chief Secretary to take them forward. Stressing that community service will be taken up beyond party lines, the Collector said that anganwadis, schools and drinking water schemes were identified after a comprehensive survey and consultation with local MLAs and stakeholders to ensure transparency.

He said Chittoor has been placed in the ‘high risk’ category for rain deficit along with Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya and Tirupati districts. According to past data, sowing and transplanting have been affected by poor rainfall in recent years, he said.
