Satwiksiraj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty put all the media storm behind them to reach their first final of the season with a stunning comeback victory over Malaysians Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzudin on Sunday 16 May. The Indian duo secured a 19-21, 22-20, 21-16 Malaysian Open final victory over the Malaysian Open.
There was a lot of talk going into the tournament about the pair and their comments after their Thomas Cup win where they claimed that they and their achievements were not being given due credit. But there was no doubting their talent and resilience on Sunday as they battled back from adversity to reach their third final, having won the tournament in 2019 and 2024.
Satwik-Chirag entered the match as India’s last hope at the Thailand Open following the exits of PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen in the quarter-finals on Friday.
