Ten newly elected members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC), including six from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took oath at the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai on Thursday (May 14, 2026).
Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde administered the oath to the members in the central hall at Vidhan Bhavan.
The newly elected members are Shiv Sena’s Neelam Gorhe, Prahar Janshakti’s Omprakash alias Bachchu Kadu, Shiv Sena’s Ambadas Danve (UBT), Pragya Satav, Pramod Jathar, Madhavi Naik, Sunil Karjatkar, Vivek Kolhe and Sanjay Bhende, all from the BJP and Zeeshan (SJPidque National Congress).
Of the 10 members, nine were elected unopposed in the biennial elections earlier this month, while Pragya Satav was elected in a by-election. She resigned from the upper house as a Congress MLC and joined the BJP.
Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar and other senior leaders were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
There are currently 22 seats unfilled in the state Legislature’s 78-member upper house — 17 local government seats and five governor-appointed seats. The next round of biennial elections is scheduled for December of this year for graduate and faculty positions.
