Chennai Super Kings have signed South African all-rounder Diana Forrester as a replacement for injured England all-rounder Jamie Overton for the remainder of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. Forrester will join the franchise for INR 75 million after Overton was ruled out with a right thigh injury.
ČSK confirmed on Wednesday, May 13 that Overton returned to the UK for “further evaluation and management” after he sustained an injury ahead of the upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
The English all-rounder has become an important figure in CSK’s campaign this season. Overton played 10 matches and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89. He also scored 136 runs at a strike-rate of 158.13, which provides quick runs in the lower middle order.
Overton last appeared in CSK’s five-wicket win over LSG in Chepauk on May 11, where he produced one of his best performances of the season. After Lucknow succeeded at 91/1 in the Powerplay, Overton pulled things back with figures of 3 for 36 as CSK restricted the visitors to 203. Chennai chased down the target in the final over, with Overton winning the Man of the Match award.
Forrester joins CSK after making his international debut for the South Africa national cricket team against the New Zealand national cricket team in March 2026. The all-rounder has so far played five international matches and scored 83 runs.
The signing took place during a season in which CSK struggled with many injuries. Earlier on Wednesday, the franchise announced Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh, who broke his leg on his IPL debut.
CSK had already lost Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis to a hamstring injury before the season. Left-arm spinner Khaleel Ahmed was later ruled out with a quadriceps injury, while young batsman Ayush Mhatre suffered a hamstring problem during the campaign.
South African batsman Dewald Brevis also missed the first three games of the season due to side strain. Veteran batsman MS Dhoni and Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson are yet to feature in IPL 2026.
Despite the injuries, CSK remains in contention for the playoffs. The five-time champions are currently fifth in the points table with 12 points from 11 games and remain in control of their qualification hopes heading into the final stages of the league stage.
