Telegram added several new features to its platform on Thursday. The instant messaging platform is now expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) sticker search capability to display community-created custom tags. In addition, there are several video-based upgrades. Users can now use specific timestamps to copy and share video links in the app. Telegram channel owners will also be able to add cover photos to videos they share on the channel. In addition, the platform will allow users to accurately restore videos to stay in using saved progress.
Telegram introduction new features
In the third major update of the year, Telegram has added some quality of life features to users. The company details the new additions in its blog post, highlighting new features users can try. First, there is an extension of the AI-driven sticker search function.
It was first added in December 2024 and allows users to search for stickers by simply describing stickers. The platform uses AI models to understand the hints in the context and matches them with stickers similar to visual information. So far, it only works with stickers in the official Telegram package. However, the feature now also supports custom stickers created by millions of communities. The feature supports 29 languages including English, Spanish, Arabic and Hindi.
Another new feature is video timestamping. Telegram users can copy and share video links on the platform, usually to forward them to friends or family. Now, when sharing videos, users can go to a specific time they want others to see and share the video with Time-Stamp. When another user opens it, it will start playing directly from a specific moment.
Telegram channel owners can now choose cover photos for the videos they post. The feature is similar to a Telegram Stories and allows the user to select a specific frame from the video as the cover. Once selected, you can also customize the cover with text, stickers, and emojis through the app’s video editor tool.
Another video-centric update is the progress savings. Telegram will now save users’ progress while watching videos and allow them to recover exactly where they stay. The company says this feature helps with long forms of content and will save users the time they spend in scrolling videos to find the desired recovery location.
In addition to that, the platform is also expanding its star reaction capability to allow users to react to posts in the channel using their channel’s identity. This will improve visibility among content creators, the Telegram said. Finally, users will also be able to explore similar robots from the robot profile.
