Telangana Police Academy launches 37th NDPS Investigation Course
The Telangana Police Academy on Monday launched the 37th batch of its NDPS Case Investigation Course, a specialized training program aimed at strengthening the capacity of police personnel to investigate narcotics cases and improve conviction rates under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Organized under the guidance of Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht, the four-day course is designed to enhance police officers’ legal knowledge, investigative skills and understanding of procedures related to drug offences. Since the introduction of this course, more than 5,000 police officers have been trained.
A total of 60 police officers are participating in the latest batch, including 14 constables, 15 head constables, nine assistant sub-inspectors, 19 sub-inspectors and three inspectors.
The session on the first day focused on key provisions of the NDPS Act, standard operating procedures for narcotics investigations, 25 critical steps to be followed during an investigation, legal compliance requirements, documentation and scientific methods of investigation.
The training session was conducted by EAGLE Force ACP Narsing Rao who briefed the participants on the latest standard operating procedures formulated for NDPS investigations. He also highlighted common mistakes made during investigations, the legal safeguards investigators must follow and the requirements to secure a conviction in court.
Academy officials said the program combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning. The curriculum includes investigative procedures, scenario-based exercises, use of digital tools in narcotics investigations, and recent court pronouncements related to NDPS cases.
Faculty members from the police, law, state and forensics departments of the academy participated in the program. Officials said the goal of the training is to equip investigators with the knowledge and skills needed to handle increasingly complex narcotics cases and ensure strict adherence to legal procedures during investigations.
