Food business operators in Hyderabad and Telangana, represented by the Telangana State Hotels Association, have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take urgent action on the sharp rise in commercial LPG cylinder prices.
The representation highlights the severe financial burden faced by tiffin centres, tea stalls, bakeries, roadside restaurants and small hotels that depend on commercial cooking gas for day-to-day operations.
According to the agency, many operators reported difficulty maintaining day-to-day operations despite market conditions preventing them from increasing food prices commensurately. Many facilities cater to middle class families, students, hostel dwellers, laborers and daily wage earners. They expressed concern that continued price increases could force several small businesses to close.
The concerns are not only commercial in nature but also directly affect thousands of livelihoods, food availability for the economically weaker sections and urban employment in the informal sector, they said.
The association urged an immediate review and rationalization of commercial LPG cylinder prices to protect small businesses and consumers.
