The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Saturday conducted a statewide special drive to check compliance and operational procedures in medical shops across the state, during which officials found irregularities in 144 pharmacies.
According to the DCA, violations found during inspections included dispensing prescription drugs in the absence of a registered pharmacist, failure to maintain or issue sales receipts, failure to maintain prescription drug registers and Schedule H1 drug registers, and failure to issue purchase receipts for drugs stored in stores.
DCA officials also found cases of sale of drugs without prescription from registered doctors, improper maintenance of copies of sales and purchase receipts, improper storage of heat-labile drugs and storage of expired drugs alongside salable stock.
The department said show-cause notices have been issued to all 144 medical shops where violations were found and further action will be initiated under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the rules made thereunder.
The DCA also appealed to the public to report complaints regarding illegal drug activities and suspicious drug manufacturing activities. Complaints can be lodged through the department’s toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, which is open on weekdays from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
