Google unveiled a special holiday logo on Wednesday (November 12) celebrating the quadratic equation, one of the most fundamental mathematical formulas that has shaped everything from engineering to economics.
This is the tech giant’s tribute to one of the most searched equations on its search engine — the quadratic equation: ax²+bx+c=0. The formula has fascinated generations of students around the world.
Google Doodle “Learning the Quadratic Equation” was launched on September 8 and first appeared in the US and UK. It is now being rolled out across Europe and other regions.
What does today’s Google holiday logo show?
Doodle Learning the Quadratic Equadratic is launched in India on November 12, 2025.
Since the equation is also used to explain movement in sports, the drawing shows the word “Google” with a second “g” and an “e” kicking into the second “o”, which looks like a basketball. The kicking goes back and forth through the “I”.
Handwritten examples of what the formula might look like, such as y = ax²+bx+c, can be seen around the animated holiday logo.
The animation begins with the Google logo changing into parabolas, each representing the curve of a quadratic equation. The doodle highlights the key components of the formula, the coefficients a, bac, and shows how these numbers affect the shape and position of the curve.
In seconds, it reveals how the roots or solutions of an equation are found where the curve intersects the x-axis.
The story behind the Google Doodle
Timed perfectly with the academic calendar, Google’s math holiday logo is meant to remind students and teachers that math can be interactive and fun.
Around October and November, many schools and educational institutions cover the quadratic equation as part of the curriculum, leading to an increase in global queries on how to solve the equation.
Once the user clicks on the holiday logo, they will be redirected to a page where they can find the solution to the quadratic equation as well as learn more about its history and applications. You can also learn more about today’s holiday logo by clicking the first link that appears on the results page.
The very first holiday logo was launched as an “out of office” message when company founders Larry and Sergey went on vacation, according to the search engine’s website.
