Techie Exploits Security Flaws, Uses AI to Clean Up Government Competitors – What Happened Next | Today’s news

A Rajasthan-based techie is in the limelight for using artificial intelligence (AI) to eliminate its government competitors. After identifying security flaws in a government job portal, a mining engineer deployed AI chatbots to cloak himself over a VPN and deleted other competitors’ names from the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) merit list, the Indian Express reported.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Rahul Kumar Meeena, had appeared for the state recruitment exam in which he secured the second rank in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. To improve his chances of securing a job, he withdrew the application of the first candidate Ashish Meena, who was just above him in the preliminary list of Assistant Mining Engineer Exam, 2024. To avoid detection, he dropped two more names from the list of candidates who had secured 4th and 5th positions.

All the candidates whose application was deleted by Rahul Kumar Meeena received an SMS informing them that their application was withdrawn based on their request.

It is important to note that the ST list had 6 candidates against one vacancy. This recruitment drive was conducted for a total of 24 vacancies including one for ST category. The provisional list released in July 2025 had as many as 78 candidates including Rahul Kumar Meeen.

How did the technician’s cunning scheme come about?

When Ravi, one of the candidates whose application received a message that his application was withdrawn on his request, approached the police. Alarmed by the news, Ravi approached the RPSC to ask why his application was withdrawn when he had not submitted any such application.

The SMS update pointed out something of concern as the app download window had closed long before. RPSC Deputy Director and analyst-programmer Raghuveer Gurjar has filed a complaint in a matter related to manipulation of RPSC recruitment portal in 2024 exam, said Ajmer SP (Cyber Police station) Shamsher Khan. “The RSCP subsequently informed the Department of Information Technology and Communications (DoIT&C), which manages the RPSC recruitment portal,” the publication quoted Shamsher Khan as saying.

The probe revealed that Rahul Sinha had created a fake single sign-on (SSO) ID to download all the three apps. Notably, SSO is a unique digital identity issued by the Government of Rajasthan to every registered citizen, business and government employee. Investigators were able to trace the accused using the IP address, which was the same address used by Rahul Meena to create his credentials.

Subsequently, the investigators traced the location of the IP address, which was found to be from the compound of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Jharkhand. DSP Khan added, “During investigation, we found that Rahul Meena was working at SAIL, Jharkhand, since 2019; it was the same place from where the applications were withdrawn.”

Rahul holds a BTech in Mining Engineering from Banaras Hindu University and has worked for SAIL in Jharkhand since 2019. In his spare time, Rahul had a habit of browsing sites in “inspection mode” and allegedly tried to change the coding of websites using AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Grok and Deepseek, among others.

However, while bypassing the security loopholes of the RPSC portal, he left behind enough clues and was eventually arrested. All his devices, including mobiles and laptops, were seized and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for analysis. While Rahul was remanded in police custody till June 25, the ST vacancy was finally secured by number one candidate Ashish Meena.
