Tasmac employees at retail stores throughout TN will be wearing the uniform starting November 15th

Wardens will wear light blue shirts with dark blue pants.

Salesmen and assistant salesmen will wear beige shirts with dark gray trousers.

From November 15, employees working in retail outlets run by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (Tasmac) will be required to report for duty in government-prescribed uniforms.

Supervisors will wear light blue shirts with dark blue pants, while clerks and assistant clerks will wear beige shirts with dark gray pants. Each employee receives three sets of uniforms.

“Given the nature of the duties performed by Tasmac’s retail store staff and the need to maintain a uniform, neat and professional appearance to the stores, it was deemed appropriate to introduce a uniform concept for them,” said the memo, which was sent to all Tasmac senior regional and district managers.

“The fabric will be supplied through Co-optex,” said Prohibition and Excise Minister K. Vignesh.

The Tasmac badge will be attached to the left chest of the shirt. The fabric purchase will be completed on or before October 31st and the sewing and stitching of all three sets will be completed on or before November 10th.

If there are practical difficulties in procuring, sewing and distributing uniforms across the state, the employees will receive a uniform allowance of ₹2,000 per set per year for three sets.

The contribution will cover both fabric and sewing costs.

The uniform contribution is credited to the bank account of each eligible employee on the first day of April.

In 2019, employees working in Elite Tasmac stores received uniforms including a jacket. But the project did not take off.

As of July 2026, Tasmac has 4,048 retail stores and 22,877 employees (6,473 supervisors, 14,379 salespeople and 2,025 assistant salespeople). For the year 2025-26, the cash cow of the Tamil Nadu government earned an income of ₹50,845 crore.
