Tamil Nadu will experience above normal maximum and minimum temperatures in May. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted above-normal rainfall this month, offering some respite.
In its outlook released on Friday (May 1, 2026), the IMD also outlined the likely impact of increased temperature, including on agriculture, and issued an agromet advisory. The coastal region of the state up to the Cauvery delta regions is expected to witness three to five days of heat. Scorching weather scorched the state in April with above-normal daily temperatures. The IMD has predicted that mercury levels may remain above average in most parts of the state this month, barring some districts of the Western Ghats.
