Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Inglis is back in the Indian Premier League and has reportedly joined his new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of their crucial clash against Mumbai Indians on May 4. LSG are currently bottom of the table alongside MI, with just four points from eight matches.
It exists no official confirmation from the franchisebut according to an ESPNcricinfo report, the Australian will be available for selection as LSG look to regain momentum in what has been a difficult campaign so far. The report also stated that South African batsman Matthew Breetzke left the team mid-season due to personal reasons.
“Meanwhile, Breetzke has returned to South Africa. He left the LSG team ahead of the April 26 home match against Kolkata Knight Riders, who were relegated to the Super Over. It is understood that Breetzke’s return was mainly due to the recent death of a close family member from his wife’s side. There is no word yet on whether Breetzke will return to the tournament,” the report added.

WILL INGLIS END LSG’s woes?
Meanwhile, Inglis has informed the franchise that he will miss the opening leg of the IPL due to wedding-related commitments. The Australian tied the knot on April 18 in Western Australia. He was bought by LSG for 8.60 crore after an impressive first IPL stint with Punjab Kings last season. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 278 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 162.57, including one fifty-plus score.
He is expected to play a key role a struggling LSG batting unit that has failed to fire this season. Their overseas star Nicholas Pooran averages just 10.25 while openers Aiden Markram (24.12) and Mitchell Marsh (26.50) along with skipper Rishabh Pant (27) failed to deliver at crucial moments.
This stage of the tournament could prove to be a compromise for LSG, who can no longer afford to slip up if they want to stay in contention for the playoffs. The following week is particularly challenging, with three games ahead: Monday 4th May against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai, Thursday 7th May against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow and Sunday 10th May against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
With Inglis now available, LSG will be hoping his inclusion brings some much-needed energy and consistency to their campaign as they attempt to get their season back on track.
