The electorate’s choice of political candidates over the last three decades has come as a surprise to the Kangayam Assembly segment in Tiruppur district, which has witnessed rapid economic strides due to various industrial activities in the capital as well as agriculture in the hinterland.
The candidates of the main Dravidian parties, the DMK and the AIADMK, clashed in the 2021 elections after 20 years in the Kangayam Assembly constituency, with MP Saminathan, the Information and Publicity Minister, winning by a margin of 7,331 votes over his nearest rival AS Ramalingam of the AIADMK.
