Delhi’s Patiala House Court has granted conditional bail to Baramulla Member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid to attend the budget session of Parliament from January 28 to April 2 whenever Parliament is in session, news agency ANI reported.
Engineer Rashid is accused in a terror case filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2017.
Last week, the court issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the plea of Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid, who is seeking interim bail/remand to attend the upcoming budget session of Parliament scheduled to start from January 28 to April 2.
NIA Special Judge Prashant Sharma issued a notice to the NIA and sought a reply to the objection. Engineer Rashid is in judicial custody in a terror financing case.
The court set the matter for hearing on January 21.
The application was filed through advocate Vikhyat Oberoi. Advocate Nishita Gupta appeared for Abdul Rashid Sheikh during the hearing.
He was also previously granted parole to attend a parliamentary session and take the oath of office after his election as an MP. Last year, he was also allowed to vote in the vice-presidential election.
Abdul Rashid Sheikh is an MP from Baramulla from Jammu and Kashmir. His plea for adjustment of the cost of parole for attending a parliamentary session is pending before the Delhi High Court.
On November 7, a division bench of the Delhi High Court gave a split verdict on his plea. The case is being heard before a panel of a single judge.
When is the budget session of parliament?
The budget session of Parliament will begin on January 28, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju released the report on X, while the Union Budget 2026 will be presented on February 1, which falls on a Sunday.
Earlier this month, the minister provided a detailed schedule of the budget meeting, saying that based on the recommendation of the government, the president Draupadi Murmu approved the convening of both chambers of parliament for the 2026 budget negotiations.
“The session will begin on January 28, 2026 and continue till April 2, 2026. The first phase will end on February 13, 2026 and Parliament will reconvene on March 9, 2026, a major step towards meaningful debate and people-centric government,” Rijiju’s post read.
The budget session is the first meeting of parliament in the calendar year, which begins with a speech by the president to a joint meeting of both chambers.
