‘Supporting Mumbai Indians’: Shreyas Iyer’s message goes viral after Punjab Kings win

Shreyas Iyer (Image credit: BCCI/IPL) NEW DELHI: A celebration, a roar and a smile from Shreyas Iyer said it all after the Punjab Kings skipper knocked the captain to lead Punjab Kings to a much-needed win in their IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.Punjab Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets thanks to a magnificent century from Iyer. The win helped PBKS move to 15 points from 14 league matches and reclaim fourth place in the points table. However, Punjab’s fate in the playoffs is still not entirely in their hands. They will now be keeping a close eye on Sunday’s clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.“We support MI tomorrow,” Iyer said after the match.Rajasthan Royals currently have 14 points. If RR beat Mumbai Indians, they will move to 16 points and seal the final play-off spot, knocking Punjab Kings out of the tournament.Iyer admitted he felt “ecstatic” after achieving the double milestone against LSG – scoring his maiden IPL century and keeping Punjab alive in the play-off race.“In ecstasy, we finally got the first hundred of the season after losing six in a row. I know if I take my time in the middle and target the ball rather than getting on top… I know I have to stay there as long as possible,” Player of the Match Iyer said during the post-match presentation.“It’s an unbelievable feeling to finish the game and score a century. I was in a great mind space, I felt great inside,” he added.Iyer also praised Prabhsimran Singh, who scored 69, for his contribution to their match-winning partnership of 140 runs for the third wicket.“Prabh was lively and the communication we had was great. That partnership was crucial, it created momentum in the game… seriously uplifting,” he said while praising the bowlers for restricting LSG to a sub-200 total. The PBKS captain revealed that the team deliberately kept things relaxed ahead of the high-pressure encounter.“We’ve kept it simple rather than having meetings and putting pressure on the guys. A free flow of mind is required in key matches. We don’t want to force them to think too much and I told Ricky we don’t need to do a team meeting,” he said.
