Amid rising heat and humid conditions in Kerala, the state seems to have a reason to cheer in the coming days with the latest weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting widespread summer rains across the state. Summer rain will intensify in the state from April 27. The Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow warning for rain (between 64.4 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours) in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on April 29.
The seasonal summer shower has been lacking so far this season. However, increased penetration of moisture into land is likely after 27 April with the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), a moving band of rain clouds that travels around the globe, covering 12,000–20,000 km over the tropical oceans, entering a favorable phase over the Indian Ocean. This is expected to increase landward transport of moisture, thereby increasing summer rainfall activity, according to IMD officials.
