The much-anticipated Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) to decongest the city has received a major boost as Bi-RIDE (Bengaluru Integrated Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprise Limited) has officially issued a work order to Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, for the supply of the required 153 air-conditioned Coach Gaches Metro Type’Broad. Corridor-2 and Corridor-4 of the project.
The total value of the order is ₹ 1,513.75 crore.
Under the contract signed on May 6, the ICF must start supplying the coaches within the next 18 months. This date has been set to open the Chikkabanawara-Yeshwanthpur section, which falls under Corridor-2, for public service as per schedule.
Bi-RIDE further clarified that this is also in line with the timeline set by the Prime Minister during the “PRAGATI” review meeting held in December 2025 and that an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the two organizations soon.
“This work order is a historic milestone for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project. Through this partnership with ICF, we ensure that the required train cars are available by the time the track work and system infrastructure for Corridors 2 and 4 are completed. This synchronization will help provide a world-class suburban rail network to the citizens of Bengaluru without any delay,” it said, fulfilling Laxman’s vision of sustainable urban transport and decongestion. director, Bi-RIDE (K-RIDE).
