
The Allied Health Science Courses for the current academic year at the Presidential University of Bengalur on Friday organized a protest and claimed that the university was cheating on them with the “Emversity”, which was recently on the Black Charter of University Grants Commission (UGC).
Protesting students claimed that the university authorities threatened to end them when they were looking for a public announcement issued by UGC by warning “Emverzita” and offering titles with associated centers of working with private universities and describing them as illegal.
“When we went to look for clarity, the authorities caught our phones and identification cards and threatened to end us,” the protesters of Hindu said.
“We are all worried about our titles,” another student said.
Pursuant to the provisions of UGC regulations of 2003, private universities must not be set up by centers outside the premises, study centers or extension centers or within the same state without prior approval of UGC. These universities are justified to function only from their main campus unless an explicit permit for other centers is granted.
In addition, they must not associate private universities and considered universities to other universities or institutions to offer courses to award titles, diplomas or other academic qualifications. Any titles or qualifications awarded through unauthorized centers or associated institutions are considered invalid and are not recognized as the purposes of higher education or employment.
However, students claimed that the Presidential University in cooperation with Emversity Courses of Allied Health Science.
In its public announcement issued on October 8, 2025, the UGC said the Commission announced that the entity operating under the name Emverzi, Indianagar, along with associated centers offers franchise, cooperation or agreements with private universities and considered universities. “Such practices are strictly against the provisions of the UGC Act, which prohibits universities to offer study programs through franchising measures,” he said.
Meanwhile, UGC warned parents and students to verify the recognition and legal status of any institution before registration. “Getting titles from unauthorized or unrecognized institutions can lead to such qualifications are considered invalid,” he reads the announcement.
When it was contacted, the authority of the university said: “Emversity has nothing to do with the title of allied health sciences offered by the university. We cooperated with Emversity only to establish laboratories.”
In this respect, the university has published clarification and said: “It is clear that the programs for allied health sciences and physiotherapy are recognized by the State Government of Karnataka and offered without any cooperation of third parties.
