Karwa Chauuth: meaning
Karwa Chauth Day is also known as Karak Chaturthi. Karwa or Karak refers to a clay pot through which water is made for the moon, known as Argha. Karwa is very significant during the Puja and is also given as Dan Brahmin.
This year several couples of celebrities, including Koli and Vrishank Khanal, Neera Chopra and Himani Mor, will celebrate their first Karwa Chauth.
At Karwa Chauth, married Hindu women observe Nirjala, fasting without food or water, on that day from the east to a month and offer prayers for health, longevity and prosperity of their husband. This festival celebrates the bond of love between husband and wife and women who break fast after watching the Moon.
Women on this day also worship several deities, including Chauth Mat, the goddess Gaura, Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikey and Lord Ganeshy.
