Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put in a dominant all-round performance to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter with a record-breaking batting and strong bowling effort. A scintillating century from Abhishek Sharma boosted SRH to a daunting total before a disciplined attack led by Eshan Malinga ensured the visitors never came close to chasing.
First innings: SRH set a daunting benchmark
Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a batting performance of the highest caliber, posting an impressive 242/2 after 20 overs and effectively taking control of the contest. The innings was built on a solid foundation in a power play where the openers, Travis Head 37 (26) and Abhishek Sharma 135* (68), combined intent with calculated stroke play to grab an early run-up. SRH kept pace through the middle overs with Ishan Kishan 25 (13) and Heinrich Klaasen 37* (13), adding crucial runs and taking advantage of loose deliveries. There was a significant acceleration in the closing stages with clean hitting and intelligent shot selection allowing them to get well past the 240 mark.
Brilliant knock by Abhishek Sharma
The heart of SRH’s innings was Abhishek Sharma’s unbeaten 135, an innings that combined technical assurance with controlled aggression. He matured after the strike, starting off with a calm before gradually expanding his scoring range as the innings progressed.
Abhishek handled the field intelligently and punished anything marginally off the line. His ability to smoothly shift gears ensured that the ratings never dipped. He was well supported by Travis Head who provided the impetus up top while Heinrich Klaasen added a strong late flourish.
Second innings: DC struggle to maintain momentum
In response, Delhi Capitals approached the chase with intent but were unable to sustain the required momentum against disciplined bowling and the mounting pressure of a steep target. KL Rahul 37 (23) and Nitish Rana 57 (30) tried to set the tone with proactive pull play but neither could turn their starts into substantial contributions. The asking rate continued to rise, forcing riskier options and leading to regular wickets. Despite a brief resistance from the middle order, including 41 off 28 balls from Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs’ 27 off 16 deliveries, the lack of a sustained partnership meant DC kept playing catch-up. As the innings progressed, the contest grew further apart, with SRH maintaining control through tight lines and effective variations.
Eshan Malinga is accuracy and impact
The defining phase of the chase came through an incisive spell from Eshan Malinga, who finished with excellent figures of 4/32. Malinga’s ability to change pace and take advantage of the conditions proved crucial as he removed key batsmen at crucial moments. His double strike, dismissing Nitish Rana and David Miller 0 (1) in quick succession, halted DC’s progress and shifted the momentum decisively. He later returned to claim the wickets of Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma 14 (10), effectively dismantling the middle and lower order. His magic was not just about the goals but the control that ensured DC never found a way back into the match.
In the end, Harsh Dubey grabbed three wickets to restrict DC to 195/9 and SRH registered a convincing 47-run victory, underscoring their authority in all phases of the game.
