The Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) asked a Sabarimala tantri (head priest) whether believers can be expected to shed their sense of rationality and believe in any ancient religious practice in an era of advanced education and technology.
The question came during the hearing of the Sabarimala review case before a nine-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant in connection with the exclusion of menstruating women from a temple in Kerala.
