SpiceJet flights delayed at Delhi airport due to ‘operational’ issues, passengers stranded: What airline said | Today’s news
SpiceJet flights were delayed at the Delhi airport on Saturday, with the airline citing “operational reasons” for the disruption. The Indian low-cost carrier said flights SG121 and SG127 bound for Leh and Jammu have arrived at their destinations.
The delay affected hundreds of passengers who were stranded at the airport.
“On 19 September 2026, SpiceJet flights SG121 and SG127 operating from Delhi to Leh and SG2160 operating from Delhi to Jammu were delayed due to operational reasons. The flights have departed and have already landed at their destinations. SpiceJet deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
SpiceJet flight SG5111 from Delhi to Dubai, scheduled to depart Terminal 3 at 7.45am, was also delayed. Flight tracking data showed the flight finally departed at 9:42 am.
The airline is facing a long-term financial crisis and has left a large part of its fleet grounded.
Delhi airport authorities said their ground teams are working closely with the airline and other stakeholders to assist passengers affected by the disruption.
“We regret the inconvenience passengers are facing due to the operational disruption of some SpiceJet flights. Delhi airport teams are actively coordinating with the airline and relevant stakeholders to support the affected passengers and provide necessary assistance to help,” Delhi Airport wrote on X.

On 15 September, two SpiceJet flights from Delhi to Dubai, SG 5111 and SG 5105, were delayed for more than 24 hours after the aircraft was grounded, leading to protests by passengers at the Delhi airport. Stranded travelers staged a sit-in and sought food, accommodation and regular updates from the airline.

Airport workers later intervened to help the affected passengers. Some travelers also clashed with airport officials over restrictions on filming at the airport.
SpiceJet seeks ECLGS funds amid financial crunch
Meanwhile, SpiceJet said on September 3 that it is seeking funds under the Emergency Credit Facility (ECLGS) as the airline continues to face financial and operational issues. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the government is also urging the carrier to expand its operations.

Speaking to reporters, Naidu said the government has been in regular communication with the airlines to understand their problems and held talks with SpiceJet on its operational challenges, according to ANI.
“Every month we have discussions with all the airlines regarding any difficulties, problems or challenges they have. We have also met SpiceJet in the same regard,” Naidu said.
He said the government is supporting SpiceJet to strengthen its operations with a special focus on resolving its financial woes.

“And we have been pushing them to step up their operations, especially their financial side. And they have also assured that they will do that quite soon,” he mentioned.
When asked if SpiceJet had requested additional financial assistance from the government, Naidu said the airline had not made such a request. However, he added that the carrier was seeking financing through ECLGS.
“No, in terms of support, there is an ECLGS scheme. They are trying to get some money through this scheme,” Naidu said.
