Mumbai Police on Wednesday summoned social media influencer Orry alias Orhan Awatramani in connection with ₹252 million drug case.
Orry has been asked to appear before the Ghatkopar Anti-Narcotics Cell for questioning at 10 am tomorrow, according to ANI quoting the police.
Police have previously said film and fashion celebrities named by Shaikh – an alleged drug dealer who was deported from Dubai last month – are likely to be questioned as investigations continue.
what is it about
The case dates back to March 2024, when police seized 126.14 kg of mephedrone, commonly known as ‘MD’, worth around ₹252 crore from a manufacturing unit located at a farm in Maharashtra’s Sangli district.
The city police on Monday took Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh into custody in connection with the case. He is currently in the custody of the anti-narcotics cell unit of Ghatkopar.
Shaikh claimed to have organized rave parties for film and fashion celebrities as well as gangsters in the country and abroad, PTI reported.
Why was Orry summoned?
The anti-narcotics cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch said several high-profile individuals, including Nora Fatehia and Shraddha Kapoor, allegedly attended the lavish parties organized by Shaikh.
In their remand application in a Mumbai court, the police said producers Abbas-Mustan were also allegedly present at the parties along with several other celebrities such as rapper Loka, Orry and NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique, a Hindustan Times report said.
How did the police catch Shaikh?
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ANC) Navnath Dhavale said Shaikh’s role came to light during an investigation into the seizure of 995g of mephedrone. ₹2 trillion crore in which four persons were arrested on August 4.
The DCP also said that a Red Corner notice had been issued against Shaikh after which he was detained in the UAE a few weeks ago. The city police then approached their sister agencies and the accused was expelled, the official said.
According to the police, Shaikh is involved in at least four drug cases.
Earlier, the police had brought Tahir Salim Dola, son of drug kingpin Salim Dola, Mustafa Mohammed Kubbawala and Mohammed Salim Mohammed Sohail Shaikh, he said.
