Indian women’s vice-captain and opener Smriti Mandhana has slipped in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings after a poor run of form in the ongoing series against South Africa. Mandhana, who came into the series after a good run in the away series against Australiahe scored 13 and 12 runs respectively as India were defeated in the first two matches of the 5-match series.
Mandhana slipped to fourth in the latest rankings, overtaking West Indies’ Hayley Matthews. Shafali Verma, however, climbed two places to sixth in the rankings. Her rise up the rankings comes after a fifty in the second match of the series against the Proteas Women.
Shafali scored 57 off 38 balls in the match. However, India suffered an eight-wicket defeat against the hosts to go 0-2 down in the series.
They also lost the opening T20I at the same venue by six wickets where Shafali scored 34 runs. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has moved up two places and is now just outside the top 10, sitting at 11th after her unbeaten 47 in the first T20I.
Meanwhile, Women’s World Cup star Jemimah Rodrigues has dropped four places to 14th in the batting rankings after a quiet run of form. South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has maintained her fifth position in the T20I batting rankings, just behind Australia’s Georgia Voll after scoring an impressive half-century in the second match against India.
Her team-mates Annerie Dercksen and Sune Luus also saw notable rises, with Dercksen climbing 18 places to 33rd and Luus moving up eight places to 35th after superb performances in Durban.
BOHLER’S INDIA SLIPS OUT
Indian bowling mainstays Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh Thakur and Arundhati Reddy have slipped in the latest bowling rankings. Deepti fell two places to No. 5, while Renuka fell four places to ninth.
Meanwhile, Arundhati dropped out of the top 10 after falling three places to 12th. India have a chance to bounce back in the series, which is seen as an ideal warm-up for both sides ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup in England in June this year.
