Mumbai Indians faced their fourth straight defeat in the ongoing IPL 2026 campaign as they were comprehensively beaten by Punjab, who chased down a target of 196 in just 16.3 overs, with seven wickets to spare.
After the loss, a video surfaced on X showing Bumrah visibly frustrated with Hardik. The MI captain decided to set the field according to his own strategy during the crucial point of the match, which did not sit well with Bumrah. Although Bumrah argued initially, he eventually followed his captain’s decision and looked disappointed.
In the same footage, Hardik was seen animatedly addressing the fielders, showing his displeasure with the team’s efforts during the match.
HARDIK GOES CRAZY WITH MI PLAYERS AFTER LOSS
Hardik Pandya did not hold back in his criticism the team’s performance after the loss to PBKS. The MI captain expressed his bewilderment at their performance against Punjab and stressed the need for a thorough evaluation to see if significant changes are necessary.
“To be very honest, I have nothing to say at the moment. We have to go back to the drawing board and find out what we are missing. Are they individuals? Is it as a group? Is it planned? We will sit down soon and figure it out and then see what we can do next,” said Hardik Pandya in a post-match interview.
“We really need to figure out if we need to make some bold calls or hopefully turn it around with the same group. There are some tough questions to answer and yes, we need to take ownership.”
Despite remarkable performances from Quinton de Kock, who scored a century, and Naman Dhir, who contributed a fifty, the rest of the team fell short. Bumrah went wicketless again conceding 41 runs in his four overs. Hardik could only get 14 off the 12 balls he faced and conceded 39 runs from the three overs he bowled.
Mumbai Indians will take on Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 20 in their next crucial must-win encounter for the team.
