Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal, who recently announced that they have called off their wedding, have now unfollowed each other on Instagram. The update comes days after the pair released separate statements demanding privacy.
The two were gearing up for their wedding in Sangli, Maharashtra, with the pre-wedding celebrations already underway. Photos and clips from their engagement and Haldi ceremonies went viral on fan sites and became one of the most talked about celebrity couples of the year.
However, the wedding was initially postponed after Smriti’s father was hospitalized on the day of the ceremony following a medical emergency. Shortly thereafter, Palash was also briefly hospitalized for further examination.
On 7 December, Mandhana publicly addressed the speculation surrounding her personal life, confirming that the wedding had been called off and stressing that she remained solely focused on representing India in cricket. She also called on the media and the public to respect the privacy of both families.
Palash released a statement shortly after saying that he had decided to “move on” and expressed concern about the misinformation being spread online. He added that legal action would be taken against defamatory content shared about him on social media.
The couple, who were once celebrated across the cricket and music fandoms, are now keeping quiet on the matter as they step away from the limelight and continue to ask for space.
The relationship comes to an unexpected end
Though Smriti and Palash have largely kept their relationship private, their engagement brought it into the limelight, with fans eagerly anticipating a grand wedding in Sangli on November 24. Instead, the couple is now in the news for their sudden split, with the development attracting considerable attention online.
Both families have asked for privacy and no further details have been shared about the decision to call off the wedding.
