The Election Commission called the Trinamool Congress on Friday after the Mamata Banerjee-led party sought time with the polling panel amid a special intensive review of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union territories, including West Bengal.
In a letter to party chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday, the poll body said a Trinamool delegation comprising its proxy and four others may meet its top brass at 11 am on Friday.
The Election Commission (EC) has informed that Trinamool leader Derek O’Brien has requested to appoint a delegation of party MPs.
“The Commission always welcomes regular interaction with political parties for constructive dialogue.
“Accordingly, the Commission considered the party’s request and decided to grant a meeting of the delegation consisting of an authorized representative of the party along with four other members on November 28 at 11 am…,” the probe panel said.
O’Brien wrote to the EC on Sunday asking for time.
The proposed interaction will take place against the backdrop of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee writing to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar seeking his “immediate intervention” on two recent issues.
She referred to the state chief executive’s direction to district election officials not to engage contract data entry operators and Bangla Sahayata Kendra staff for special intensive revision (SIR), voter list cleansing exercise or other poll-related work.
Another thing is the EC’s proposal to set up polling stations inside private residential complexes.
