Shreyas Iyer’s woes continue as Shivam Dube steals the show in the Mumbai T20 League
Shreyas Iyer’s difficult run continued on Tuesday night as well. The star Indian batsman, playing in his first match since Punjab Kings’ relegation from the Indian Premier League 2026, failed to score at the Wankhede Stadium. He was dismissed cheaply while his Indian teammate Shivam Dube stole the limelight.
Iyer recently completed a challenging season as the captain of Punjab Kings in the IPL. On June 2, he turned up at SoBo Mumbai Falcons hoping to find his rhythm back on his home ground. The right-hander, who went in to bat at number three against ARCS Andheri, looked to build a strong innings. However, his stay at the crease lasted only a few moments and he was dropped after scoring just five runs.
The big wicket came from Shivam Dube. Captain Dube played a sharp shot in the fourth over which forced an error from Iyer. The ball caught the outside edge of Iyer’s bat and flew straight into the hands of keeper Prasad Pawar. Video clips of the dismissal quickly went viral on social media, focusing more on Iyer’s current struggle for runs.
The Falcons relied heavily on Iyer’s international experience to help them score big in the first match of the season. Instead, his early exit shocked the team and triggered a major batting collapse. Without their lead batsman to anchor the innings, the rest of the line-up struggled to cope with the pressure. ARCS Andheri took full advantage of the situation and kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
With nobody left to steady the innings, the Falcons were bowled out for a paltry score of 126 in 18.2 overs. While Dube ended the night on a happy note with a match-winning performance, Iyer is left looking for answers to his batting slump as the tournament moves forward.
