Alleged police misconduct: HC runs govt. verify compliance with his order
The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to verify compliance with the High Court’s order passed in December 2025 directing the Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam Range) to consider a complaint regarding the alleged misconduct of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) towards a woman film producer.
In her plea, producer Sheela Kurian sought prosecution of former Alappuzha DySP Madhu Babu, who she said had behaved rudely and insulted her modesty in February 2025 when she visited his office. The conduct was against the guidelines issued by the state police chief regarding the etiquette police officers must follow, she said in her plea.
In 2025, she approached the High Court, alleging inaction in her complaint. It further asked the state government, the state police chief, the additional director general of police (law and order), the inspector general of police (Ernakulam Range) and the district police chief of Alappuzha to initiate criminal proceedings against the DySP. Subsequently, the High Court in December ordered the Inspector General to consider her complaint and take appropriate action as required by law.
Justice Jobin Sebastian posted the matter for further hearing on June 30.
