Donald Trump was evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after shots rang out inside the Washington Hilton, leading to immediate chaos.
The president, who was seated on stage next to first lady Melania Trump and Weijia Jiang — a CBS News correspondent and president of the White House Correspondents’ Association — was quickly ushered out of the ballroom by security personnel as attendees ducked for cover under the tables. The room was immediately sealed off, the Independent reports.
According to reports from CNN and TMZ, the shooter has been confirmed dead.
The shooter was likely killed by a Secret Service agent. No one else was injured.
The room was filled with members of the administration…. President Trump, the First Lady, the Vice President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Homeland Security and many more. The Trump administration was basically front and center. The shooter is dead… probably killed by a Secret Service agent. No one else was injured.
The room was filled with members of the administration…. President Trump, the First Lady, the Vice President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Homeland Security and many more. The Trump administration was basically at the forefront.
Among those present at the time of the incident were several top Trump administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth — making the security breach one of the most disturbing to occur at a public event for the president and his cabinet in recent memory.
The dinner, held annually to celebrate the First Amendment and freedom of the press, drew particular attention this year because Trump attended for the first time as a sitting president, ending a years-long boycott of the event. What was expected to be a busy but festive evening ended instead with an evacuation and emergency response, with the full circumstances of the shooting still emerging.
