The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Friday announced that it will launch a nationwide agitation from November 1 to 4, demanding immediate release of the long-standing payment of fees and scholarship dues from the government.
The organizers criticized the government for its inaction and claimed that arrears of over ₹10,300 crore remain unpaid. And about 14 thousand students from SC, ST, OBC and minority groups are affected.
SFI officials said private and government institutions have been harassing students for unpaid fees and withholding of certificates. They urged the government to crack down on such practices and immediately release at least ₹900 crore as promised earlier, saying “scholarships are not charity but a constitutional right”.
