‘Security is always important’: Bangladesh set to beef up security for potential T20I tour of India
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reiterated its commitment to provide the highest level of security for the planned white-ball tour of India in September, with the board ready to further strengthen its measures if necessary.BCB Security Committee Chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed said on Tuesday that the board is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the security of the visiting Indian team. While formal talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to begin, he expressed confidence that the tour will go ahead as planned. The development comes after the BCB recently invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for its 2026 and 2027 domestic internationals, specifically including the 2026 tour of India, signaling growing optimism that the series will continue despite earlier uncertainty. The absence of T20Is from India’s tour of Sri Lanka in August also strengthened expectations that the Bangladesh tour would remain on schedule.
BCB promises the highest safety standards
Relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained in recent times, leading to concerns over the bilateral series. Security had earlier emerged as a major talking point after the then caretaker government led by Muhammad Yunus cited security concerns in withdrawing Bangladesh from the last T20 World Cup in India. However, Ibrahim, who also serves as the son of Bangladesh’s interior minister Salahuddin Ahmed, stressed that security remains a top priority for BCB.“Security is always an issue for any touring side, especially the big cricket-playing nations. We have not formally started communicating with them (BCCI) yet. We hope there will be no complaints if the tour goes ahead as planned,” Ibrahim told reporters in Dhaka.“We always strive to hold our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of safety. We will continue to do so.”He added that the security level will be reviewed based on the prevailing situation during the series.“It will depend on the circumstances and we will increase security if necessary,” he said.
She has not yet started formal negotiations with the BCCI
Ibrahim also confirmed that talks with the BCCI are still at an early stage.“So far no such positive news has come and we are still working on the details of the tour. We are trying to establish communication through formal channels as the tour is coming up very soon,” he added.
