The Supreme Court on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) agreed to hear the Odisha government’s plea challenging the release of the animated film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’ after it was granted permission to screen by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The court took cognizance of the Odisha government’s contention that the release would create a law and order situation in the state.

Earlier, the Bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R. Mahadevan allowed the all-India release of the animated film on or after July 28 after the Lord Jagannath Yatra festivities.

The suit was mentioned on Monday (July 27, 2026) before a bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohan, who agreed to it on Tuesday.
