Sai Krishna custodial death: SIT likely to question suspended CI Krishnalanka from July 29

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged death of Gade Sai Krishna (25) in NTR Police Commissionerate limits is likely to take accused Krishnalanka Circle Inspector (CI) SSVV Nagaraju into custody from Rajamahendravaram Central Jail for questioning on Wednesday (July 29).

The Supreme Court on Monday granted seven days of police custody for questioning suspended circle inspector Krishnalanka, who is the main accused in the alleged custodial death case of Sai Krishna.

The SIT, headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) M Ravi Prakash, arrested Nagaraja and four constables on charges of illegal imprisonment, torture, custodial death and destruction of evidence in the case.

Meanwhile, Sai Krishna’s mother, Gade Vijaya Lakshmi, alleged that her son was illegally detained at the Krishnalanka police station, brutally tortured and beaten to death in May this year. Later, the police cremated the body and destroyed the evidence, she claimed.

The SIT officers filed a remand of the accused in a Vijayawada court to trace the victim’s body, identify the other suspects and collect material evidence, including missing CCTV footage and other scientific evidence in the case.

The Supreme Court, meanwhile, said the investigating officer can interrogate the accused at the designated interrogation center of the SIT or at any other facility available to the Vijayawada police.

The Supreme Court further stated that the accused has the right to have his lawyer present during the questioning and that the lawyer will be allowed to remain at the place of questioning where he can see the accused. However, the lawyer will not interfere in the investigation process, the apex court added.

The SIT police is likely to take the accused to Krishnalanka police station and other various places in Vijayawada during the seven-day remand to collect evidence in the case.
