Sabri river is receding, Godavari is rising, authorities are on high alert

More than 3,200 families have been affected and 18 villages submerged due to floods in Sabari River in Chintoor Agency area of ​​Polavaram District. The inflow into the Sabari river receded on Sunday night, but the rising level of the Godavari river poses a fresh threat of submerging villages along the banks of the Sabari and Godavari in Polavaram district.

According to the Godavari flood report, the water level in Bhadrachalam was at 42.80 feet on Sunday evening with a flow of 9.22 lakh cusecs. The first Godavari flood warning is issued when the water level reaches 43 feet. Flood water from Bhadrachalam is expected to reach Chintoor on Monday.

Authorities have warned residents of at least 160 villages about the rising water level in the Godavari River. Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Manager Subham Nokwal said, “At least 134 women requiring antenatal care have been shifted to nearby hospitals and 105 relief centers will remain open in Chintoor Agency following the Godavari flood.”
