British comedian, broadcaster and actor Russell Brand has been formally charged with two further sexual offences, including one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police have announced.
Russell Brand charged with two more counts of sexual assault
The additional charges have been approved by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and relate to allegations made by two other women.
The new charges follow five earlier charges against Brando, which include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault, filed in April 2025 in relation to four other women. Brand, 50, pleaded not guilty to those original charges in May and has consistently denied all allegations of non-consensual activity.
According to the CPS, the new rape allegation allegedly occurred between February 7, 2009, and March 1, 2009, involving one woman, while another sexual assault allegation occurred between August 31, 2009, and December 1, 2009, in relation to another woman. The latest allegations, like the earlier ones, are historical in nature.
Brand, who lives in Oxfordshire, faces charges of raping a woman in Bournemouth in 1999 and indecently assaulting another woman in Westminster in 2001. He is also accused of sexually assaulting a third woman in Westminster between 2004 and 2005, with the remaining charges relating to the alleged sexual assault of a fourth rape in West04.
Brand is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 on these new charges. The trial on the original five charges is due to start at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, who is leading the Metropolitan Police’s investigation, reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. He also confirmed that women who have made reports, including those linked to the new allegations, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
