The wait for Rohit Sharma’s comeback continues as the Mumbai Indians star missed his fourth straight match of IPL 2026. Fans were hoping to see him back against Sunrisers Hyderabad but it was not to be.
After Rohit was seen practicing in the nets ahead of MI’s recent matches, optimism was building. At the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya confirmed that there is still some time left for Rohit’s return.
MI vs SRH, IPL 2026: UPDATE| SCORECARD
“Rohit will take a few more matches. He has tried, he is not exactly where he wants to be, so he is not available for the team,” Hardik said.
The update comes as a setback for fans who have been expecting a return, especially with Rohit continued training with the team over the last few games.
WHY IS ROHIT SHARMA NOT ACTING?
Rohit has been sidelined since April 12 after suffering a hamstring injury during MI’s loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
He has since worked with the medical staff to regain full fitness, but his recovery has taken longer than originally expected. The fact that he is still not match-ready despite training has raised questions about the extent of the injury.
In his absence, MI struggled to settle on an opening combination. Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Denmark’s Malewar were all tried but none managed to lock down a role.
Malewar in particular has struggled, scoring 2 and 0 in his last two outings to highlight the gap at the top.
HOW HAS ROHIT’S ABSENCE AFFECTED MI?
Rohit’s absence has left a glaring hole in MI’s batting.
Despite missing a few matches, he remains their fourth-highest run-scorer this season with 137 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165. These numbers underline how important he has been to their starts.
Without him, MI lacked stability and intent in power play. Constant changes at the top have also increased the pressure on the middle order.
With Hardik hinting that Rohit might miss a few more matches, the uncertainty continues. The bigger concern for MI is not just when he returns, but whether he can hold the season together until then.
