A restored statue of former Chief Minister and Congress stalwart K. Kamaraj was inaugurated at the Auxilium College junction in Katpadi, Vellore on Monday.

GV Selvam, Vice President of VIT, inaugurated the restored statue which was erected in 1969. Residents and social activists of the area requested Mr. Selvam to restore the statue after it was severely damaged.

Since the area has many educational institutions, including government schools, students use the intersection to reach the campuses every day. The restoration of the statue of the Congress leader who contributed to school education in the state will help the young generation to know the rich past of the Congress veteran.

Subsequently, restoration work was started under the leadership of Mr. Selvam, who also financed the work. Residents and educators in the area welcomed the initiative. On the occasion, Mr. Selvam distributed free books and stationery to the students of the school.
