‘France played badly because…’: Social media rips Kylian Mbappe’s team after Spain defeat | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Today’s news

Even before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it was widely believed that France would reach the final. Many even claimed that Kylian Mbappe would definitely lift the trophy. Spain kicked Les Bleus out of the tournament last night.

At no point in the match between France and Spain did Mbappe’s side look even remotely deserving of the win. The captain admitted after the loss that his team was below average.

“We were too sloppy technically. We couldn’t hurt them when we could,” he said.

“As captain, I have to take all the responsibility and I have no problem with that. We wanted to go to the final. We didn’t,” Mbappe added.

Reaction on social networks

Social media erupted after France’s semi-final against Spain.

“What a bizarre way to end a great French World Cup. What on earth happened? Anyway I think it will be England v Spain on Sunday,” wrote one, predicting Harry Kane’s men will beat Argentina in the 2nd semi-final.

Another user countered while hinting at a conspiracy theory: “FIFA wanted their 2 Golden Boys Messi and Yamal in the finals and they got it. They got rid of their biggest competition in France and Mbappe. England are about to find out why they call the outrageous hand ball – ‘HAND OF GOD’.”

“France played badly because the French don’t work on public holidays,” joked one user.

“Spain have absolutely fooled the world. They only played at 40% all tournament, only to be underestimated by everyone, and now they unleash their full force against France,” read another.

Ranveer Allahbadia, who regularly shares his thoughts on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, posted his reaction after the match.

“What a shocker! France looked almost unstoppable at this World Cup but Spain were phenomenal. Deserving finalists after such incredible consistency. Kylian Mbappé heartbroken. One of the best players of this generation deserved another chance at the trophy. Such is football. Sometimes the best stories come with the hardest ending,” the YouTuber wrote.

“We overrated this French team because of individual brilliance. Spain is teaching them how to play football,” another user commented during the match.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Spain.

“Well done to Spain for this qualification. Thank you Bleus for carrying our colors with determination. Today’s defeat is hard to accept but this team is young and full of promise,” he wrote.
