
In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old college student was brutally killed near the railway tracks in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 17.

What happened?
According to the police, Yamini was attacked while returning home. The defendant, who allegedly arrived on a two-wheeler, cut her throat with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Babasab Nemagoud, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said, “Information was received about the discovery of a woman’s body near the railway track under the Srirampura border. On spot inspection by our officials, it was found to be the body of a woman aged around 20 years with injuries on her face and neck.”

Citing a preliminary report, Nemagoud said that when she was returning from college, a miscreant attacked her and ran away. “We have registered a case based on the complaint of her relatives and are trying to nab the culprit. Further investigations are on,” the DCP added.
Nemagoud further said: “We have some information about the culprit. He is said to be a person from the same locality. Once he is secured, we will get more information. After his arrest, a detailed interrogation will be conducted.”
The police suspect that the attacker had been stalking the student for several days and asking for her hand in marriage. She allegedly rejected his advances, which could have angered him and led to murder.
The police have formed several teams to track down and arrest the accused.
Bengaluru college student raped by junior on campus
In a separate incident, a seventh-semester student of BMS College of Engineering in South Bengaluru’s Basavanagudi area was allegedly raped by her junior in the men’s toilet of the campus.
The incident reportedly took place on October 10 and a first information report (FIR) was filed on October 15 under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The victim delayed filing a complaint because she was upset and scared, but later informed her parents, who went to the police and filed a complaint, police said Friday.
The accused has been identified as 21-year-old Jeevan Gowda, a fifth semester student. He was arrested by the Hanumanthanagar police on Wednesday.

Gowda is currently in judicial custody.
According to the FIR, the survivor reached the college at 8:55 am and told Jeevan that he would meet him in the afternoon to collect some items. The defendant allegedly asked to speak to her and called her repeatedly during her lunch break. When the victim went downstairs to meet him, he allegedly asked her to go to the seventh floor.
Police said the accused assaulted her on the seventh floor. She managed to enter the elevator and go down to the sixth floor, where he allegedly cornered her in the men’s room and raped her.
During the robbery, he allegedly locked the room and pocketed her cell phone when her boyfriend called her. The incident is believed to have happened between 1.30pm and 1.50pm on October 10.
