First phase West Bengal Assembly Elections on Thursday (April 23, 2026) witnessed the highest ever voter turnout in any State Assembly election since independence, data analyzed by The Hindu revealed.
The voter turnout on Thursday (April 23, 2026) was 92.88% in 152 constituencies in 16 districts across the state, sealing the fate of 1,478 candidates in the fray. Although this is only the first phase of the polls and the state voted with a scrapped voter list that was reduced by 12% after Special intensive revision The process (SIR) removed at least 91 thousand people, still had the highest number of voters in the state.
